03 How a suit is built

Cloth first. Everything else follows.

We start with the cloth and work backwards: what it does in a room, how it hangs after four hours, whether it will still look like a suit on the train home. Then we cut a jacket that closes cleanly, a trouser that does not need a belt to behave, and a lining that will not announce itself.

Ordered on a Sunday, had the stock confirmation Monday morning and the suit ten days later. The navy is darker than the photos, which I prefer. I am 5'10" and 172 lb, took a 40R, and the jacket closed with room for a shirt without any tailoring. Trousers needed a hem, as stated. It has been to three client meetings and no one has asked where it is from, which is exactly what I wanted.

I am slim and most suits hang off me like a curtain. This one does not. The taper starts at the knee so it does not grab the thigh, and the shoulders are still where they should be. I sized up after messaging them on WhatsApp and that was the right call. The stretch is subtle, not shiny. Wore it to a gallery opening with a black knit and it looked right.

The hopsack is the reason to buy this. It has depth without a pattern, and after a four-hour train it still looked like a suit instead of a bedsheet. Grey is a true mid-grey, not blue-grey. Only note: the sleeves came a touch long for me at 5'8", so budget for a tailor. Shipping was tracked the whole way and the box arrived undamaged.

Bought this for a beach wedding in February and it did the job in 34 degrees. The blend creases less than pure linen but it still creases - do not expect magic. Unlined jacket is a genuine relief. I am between a 40 and 42 and took the 42 for the shoulders; the body is a little easy but a tailor fixed it for $20. Would buy again in another colour.

I am 6'1", 190 lb, 42R fits with a shirt and no adjustments. The trousers are properly flat-front, which keeps it from looking like a costume.

01How do I choose a size without trying the suit on?

Measure your chest at the widest point and your natural waist, then read the size table on the size guide. If you are between sizes, take the larger one - a tailor can take in, but cannot add. Message us on WhatsApp with your height, weight and chest and we will tell you which size we would ship.

02Where do the suits ship from, and how much is shipping?

Every order ships tracked and insured from Guangdong, China. Shipping is $24.00 flat and free over $349.00; most orders arrive 6-12 business days after dispatch.

03Are the trousers hemmed?

No. Every pair arrives unhemmed so your tailor can set the length and break for the shoes you actually wear. Any local tailor can do it in a day; we would rather ship it long than guess.

04How do I pay?

Checkout with PayPal, or choose the secure payment link option - we confirm stock and email you a card or PayPal link within one working day. Nothing is charged until we confirm with you.
